Been a long while
My dad left Texas in February for a job in Connecticutt. So far he is liking it up there, but he is home sick. I went up there at Easter to visit him. We spent 3 days in Connecticutt and a day in NYC (I have been there before). I was a lot of fun and a much needed vacation. We went to Mystic Pizza in Mystic, CT (home of the 1988 movie with Julia Roberts) and I have to say the pizza was very very good. We also went to Yale which was pretty but I was dissappointed with it because streets ran throughout the campus. It wasn't like I thought it would be. Plus it was raining and cold so I was soaked by the time we left. My dad grew up in NYC and still has relatives in the area so we spent Easter Eve having Easter dinner with his family. It was good to see them all again. I have only seen them once in my life and that was 9 years ago. We went to NYC on Easter which was packed with people. Thankfully since I have been there twice already I didn't want to go to too many of the touristy spots. The best part of the day was walking through Central Park because the weather was gorgeous and it was so peaceful. It is hard to believe a park like that is in the middle of a huge city. My dad said we walked by someone famous but I wasn't paying attention. He said I would have known the person, but she was gone when I turned around.
My dad was able to come home for my graduation which was nice, even though he has seen me graduate before from TCU. This ceremony was much shorter and nicer I think. The first time I graduated the ceremony was held at the Fort Worth Convention Center and everyone graduated at the same time so it lasted way to long and the speaker was boring. This time graduation was held in two ceremonies on campus and the Chancellor spoke and was much more interesting.
Besides school I have been dealing with some medical issues this semester. I was diagnosed with idopathic thrombycytopenic purpura which means I don't have enough platlet cells in my blood so my blood doesn't clot like it is supposed to. So now comes the fun part of trying to figure out the right treatment plan. I also have had terrible headaches since last fall and finally was able to get into a neurologist to check things out further and make sure nothing serious was wrong. He has me on a few different meds which have made all the difference in the world. It is so nice to be able to get through the week with only 1 or 2 headaches at most as opposed to having them constantly most days.
Ollie is a growing pup. He looks yorkie and acts poodle. He is a little over 7 months right now and is still tiny. He thinks he is a big dog though until he hears another dog bark or a loud sound. Fungus is tolerating him and enjoys stealing his food. They haven't killed eachother yet so I take that as a good sign. I think Fungus actually enjoys having him around when I am gone during the day. I got him a TCU jersey so he is now a Frog Dog and can show his TCU spirit this fall.
Well this is a lot of updating and I am sure I have left out some things, but I should be updating more now that school is out (though I am still studying for the RD exam).

I wrote this a while ago before I had a blog to post it in
"In sickness, in health; for better or worse; till death do us part" does this actually hold true anymore? It seems in today's disposable society not only are our cell phones, computers, water bottles, milk cartons disposable, but it is beginning to seem that relationships are disposable. More and more people are leaving relationships the minute the going gets tough instead of sticking with it and working things out. I recently read an article saying that couples who argued were actually happier because they got issues out in the open and worked things out. It seems that people are forgetting that everyone is an individual and is not going to see eye to eye on everything, but unfortunately somewhere a long the line it was imbedded in us that if we did not see eye to eye with our significant other that it wasn't going to work. I do not know where or why this started but it is stupid. Of course we are not going to see eye to eye on everything, that is what gives relationships of any type spice and interest. It allows for people to express their views and converse with each other. By the time people get married they should know that the person "they love" is not going to always agree and they should be happy with that. Now there are things that people can disagree about that can be deal breakers, but if you really know the person you are with those issues should come out way before marriage is ever brought up.
What saddens me the most is that "in sickness, in health" could really just mean "in health" and that I could get sick or hurt and end up alone because the person I love decides they do not want to deal with it. People seem to not like difficult situations such as injury and disease and all the side effects treatment can bring and therefore instead of sticking to their significant other's side and offering the much needed moral support they up and leave. More and more I hear about people who get diagnosed with cancer and then end up getting left. Why is this happening? Why can people not deal with difficult situations with others anymore? What is our society going to become if we ca not stick by the people we love in their most difficult hours?
And what about the sanctity of marriage? What happened to that? What happened to monogamy, not just in marriage but in relationships? Have we been raised to believe that since there is always a better cell phone or computer out there to try out that there is also a better person out there to try out. I am disgusted by the amount of infidelity that goes on in our society. It seems that the old adage "once a cheater, always a cheater" really is true. Since when did trying out people become okay?
I'm not aiming this at anyone, I'm just stating what has been on my mind for awhile. In a society where more marriages end in divorces than stay with it for the long haul, I begin to wonder where we are headed.
Now I do believe that if a person is in an abusive relationship that they need to get out. I do not condone staying with someone who abuses you, this is one of the few times I think divorce is okay.
*** Like I said I wrote it a while ago. I feel like it needs a better ending, but right now I don't know what to write.***
